The lens features a large maximum aperture of f/1.8 to provide spectacular bokeh, as well as Great low-light performance.
At maximum aperture, the lens captures about four times as much light as a conventional kit lens at max aperture.

The Canon 50mm f/1.8 STM Lens will mount and focus on all Canon EOS DSLRs. Mount the lens to an EF-M to EF adapter, and it will even fully operate on EOS M Mirrorless cameras.

The new Canon 50mm 1.8 utilizes a stepping motor to provide fast, and near-silent focusing; instant manual-focus override; and Movie Servo AF functionality for Smooth, and continuous Autofocus during video recording.

The lens features a 7-blade diaphragm (up from the old 5-blade) to provide even better soft bokeh; and optimized lens coatings helps to reduce lens flare and ghosting for improved image quality.
